We are happy to announce that the 12th installation of SHOP@CAFE, a series of small exhibitions that was first launched in 2016, will be held at the Cafe d’Art and Museum Shop. This time, we are featuring the book designer and creator Katsumi Komagata and his POP SCOPE series of images that mysteriously emerge from a complex structure of overlapping papers. A selection of picture books and mobiles by Komagata will also be available for purchase.

【POP SCOPE】
From a distance, viewers see a simple yet striking pop-style image of an animal, but a closer examination reveals it to be a complex three-dimensional work consisting of layers of precisely trimmed papers. Each image is meticulously produced by hand, with papers layered to create shadows and gradations that produce each animal’s distinctive look. In this exhibition/sale, about 20 of the series’ most popular designs will be on display. When a purchase is made, an order for the work is sent to the artist who then produces it. The finished item is then signed, framed and delivered directly to the purchaser’s home in about two weeks.
