Hara Museum ARC

We are inviting art students to participate in an all-expense-paid bus tour to Hara Art Museum ARC (Shibukawa, Gunma prefecture) that departs from Tokyo (Shinjuku).

The highlight of the tour will be a talk by Yoshitomo Nara, an artist who has been active at the forefront of the global art scene for many years. This is a rare chance to hear the artist talk in front of his works about his life from childhood until today, with a focus on the solo exhibition Yoshitomo Nara: The Beginning Place currently being held in his hometown of Aomori at the Aomori Museum of Art. In addition, participants will be able to view the current exhibition Opposite the Sun Is Where the Blue Sky Lies: Works from the Hara Museum and the Hara Rokuro Collections, take a guided tour of an Open-View Storage that is normally closed to the public and explore the adjacent Ikaho Green Bokujo recreational ranch where you can enjoy communing with animals and other activities. We invite you to put on some warm clothes and enjoy a day at an art museum in the highlands.

Date: Saturday, December 2, 2023
Gathering/disbanding point: JR Shinjuku Station (near Kogakuin University)
Target: 30 students studying art, all expenses paid.
* All fees for the lecture, museum admission, Ikaho Green Bokujo, round-trip journey by chartered bus and travel accident insurance will be waived. Please pay for your own food and drinks.
*Please be sure to bring your student ID on the day of the event.
*For minors, written consent from a parent or guardian is required.

Schedule (slated): Saturday, December 2, 2023
10:00 Gather at JR Shinjuku Station (near Kogakuin University).
10:10 Depart from JR Shinjuku Station.
*There will be a break along the way at the Kanetsu Expressway SA. A talk about the museum and exhibition will be given by a curator on board the bus.

13:00 Arrive at Hara Museum ARC.
*Free time. You may use this time to enjoy the museum and outdoor sculptures, visit the Green Bokujo, have lunch, etc. Please note that Gallery A will be temporarily closed at 15:00.
*For lunch, you can eat at the museum cafe or a restaurant at the ranch. Please pay for your own food and drinks.

14:30-15:00 Open View Storage tour (Group A).
15:00-15:30 Open View Storage tour (Group B).
*Each session is 30 minutes with 15 people per session. Due to the limited space for each tour, participants will be divided into two groups on the bus.
15:45 Hara Museum ARC’s Gallery A (lecture venue) reopens.
16:00-17:30 Artist talk by Yoshitomo Nara (time for Q&A included).
17:45 Depart from Hara Museum ARC.
21:00 Arrive at JR Shinjuku Station. Disband.
