Report: Akira Uchida Concert: silk road

A concert by artist Akira Uchida was held on June 11, 2022. In addition to performing, Mr. Uchida also engages in other activities such as instrument tuning, instrument making and sound workshops. For this concert, he gave a special performance on a self-made clavichord (a keyboard instrument invented in the 14th century), which took place in Gallery A after museum closing hours.

As the light slowly changed with the setting of the sun, members of the audience listened to the sound of the clavichord, said to be quieter and more delicate than the human voice. The lights were turned off to allow natural light from the skylights above to fill the room. After a mini tour of the gallery by Hara Museum ARC director Kazuko Aono, the performance quietly began.

Enveloped within the faint light that filled the room and surrounded by works from Hiroshi Sugimoto’s Sea of Buddha on the walls, the audience was treated to a rare chance to enjoy both art and music at the same time.
