Report: Summer Vacation Workshop: Let’s Make Art Fans! 2022

Over three days from July 29 to 31, we held workshops at Hara Museum ARC that let the participants make their own original fans using washi paper and dyes. Each year, this was a popular event that anyone from children to adults could easily take part in. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, this was the first time it was held after a three-year hiatus with the number of participants limited to ensure their safety.

At the beginning, the participants dipped folded washi paper into their favorite colored dyes. How fun it was to see the patterns that appeared when they unfolded their papers.

A colorfully dyed sheet of paper.

Next, they ironed out the wrinkles in the paper using an iron and newsprint and then attached it to the blades of a fan.

Finally, they cut the attached paper into a fan shape, making adjustments it until they had a finished fan.

Once again, many people participated. We thank you all!
