The New within the Old: Contemporary Art from the Hara Museum Collection

Dates : May 30 (Friday) – June 29 (Sunday), 2014

Constructed in 2008 as part of an expansion of Hara Museum ARC, the Kankai Pavilion is a venue where traditional East-Asian art (from the Hara Rokuro Collection) meets contemporary art (from the Hara Museum Collection). This exhibition is the second installment following The New within the Old exhibition held last year, but with a brand new selection of contemporary artworks. The Kankai Pavilion was designed by Arata Isozaki based on the traditional Japanese shoin-zukuri (drawing room) architecture. How will masterworks of contemporary art (the new) appear within the ″old″? This year′s theme is ″pop in shoin″ with an emphasis on American pop art.
